There are plenty of reasons to enjoy theatre; whether it the entertainment, theatrical costume, or dramatics. With a host of fantastic and accessible shows for you and your family, there is nothing stopping you getting out this autumn to enjoy the show.

Many venues hold relaxed performances for those on the autism spectrum to sensory performances to provide that stimulation, all excellent on-site access. Here, we have selected some of the best accessible venues and events.

Theatre by the Lake is one of the most beautiful theatres in the UK.  It’s a creative hotspot for the communities of Cumbria.  The two stages available offers a great night out and a chance to get those creative juices flowing.

With its reputation for creating the very best theatre productions, it also takes pride in serving the community as a busy arts centre hosting all sorts of different shows and festivals.

With regular appearances from local heroes and national treasures, theatre on the lakes is the place to be. Sit back, laugh, question, contemplate and cry, and everything in between.

The Barbican Theatre

This includes free large-print programmes to commemorate your visit as well as multiple wheelchair space to enjoy the performance. Furthermore, with audio-described and captioned shows regularly taking place, you’ll be spoilt for choice on what show you wish to see. They also offer an Access Member Scheme, which entitles you to discounted tickets to some of your favourite plays.

The Blakehay Theatre

Home to an array of weekly studio classes including multiple styles of dance and an inclusive youth theatre. Whether you wish to get involved or just spectate the Blakehay Theatre is the right place for you. The theatre has ramped access into the foyer and theatre bar and level access into the main house, where up to four wheelchair users can be accommodated with seating for a friend next to you.
